    Description

    Tirupati is considered one of the holiest Hindu pilgrimage sites because of Tirumala Venkateswara Temple.
    It is referred to as the "Spiritual Capital of Andhra Pradesh".

    The ancient and sacred temple of Sri Venkateswara is located on the seventh peak, Venkatachala of the sacred Seshachalam ranges. The Temple houses the awe-inspiring seven-feet idol of Lord Venkateswara which has been attracting millions of devotees.

    Tirupati is known for world-famous Tirupati Laddu. It is the prasadam at Venkateswara Temple.

     

    Festivals:
    Tirumala witness lakhs of devotees during Srivari Brahmotsavam. It is a nine-day event, celebrated during the months of September–October. During this festival, the processional deity Malayappa of Venkateswara Temple, along with his consorts Sridevi and Bhudevi, is taken in a procession in four mada streets around the temple on different Vahanams. 
    Tirupati also celebrates a carnival named as Tirupati Ganga Jatara, held during second week of May every year. This is a week long festival where Goddess Gangamma (Grama Devatha) is worshipped.

        Sri Varahaswami Temple / Sri Bhu Varaha Swamy Temple

        Sri Varahaswami Temple stands to the north of Tirupati Balaji Temple, this temple also holds immense religious significance. It is dedicated to Sri Bhu Vara Swamy, one of the incarnations of Lord Vishnu, a form of the wild boar. According to the legend behind the temple, when Lord Sri Venkateswara Swamy came down to Earth, to the hills; Sri Bhu Varaha Swami was residing there. According to Hindu scriptures, the original name of Tirumala is Adi Varaha Kshetra, which means the abode of Sri Varaha Swamy. Legend states that, Lord Varahaswami who was residing on the hills gave the land of holy seven hills to Lord Venkateswara Swamy when requested. In order to thank him, Lord Venkateswara gave the gift of first darshan and also the first naivedyam to Sri Varahaswami. This privilege was given by the lord as a thanks giving gesture. That is why it is said that devotees should first offer naivedyam to Sri Adi Varaha Swami, and then visit the Sri Venkateswara Temple.

          Sri Padmavathi Temple

          Sri Padmavathi Ammavari Temple is dedicated to Padmavati, the consort of Lord Venkateshwara. A visit to Tirupati is considered incomplete unless you have a darshan of the Goddess. The temple is about 5 kilometres away from Tirupati. Legend has it that the Lord Vishnu(incarnation of Sri Venkateswara) expressed his worship towards the sage, Bhrigu Maharshi, even though the sage had insulted Vishnu. This enraged his consort, Sri Maha Lakshmi, who went to Patala Loka, where she heard a divine voice stating that a pushkarini was dug on the banks of the river Swarnamukhi. So, she immersed herself here in penance for 12 years. In the 13th year, Sri Padmavathi emerged from a golden lotus. It is also said that Goddess Mahalakshmi herself emerged as Sri Padmavathi.

                  Kapila Theertham

                  Kapila Theertham is famous Shiva temple located at a distance of 20 kms from Tirumala temple. The temple idol is believed to be installed by Kapila Muni and hence Lord Siva here is referred to as Kapileswara here. The temple stands at the entrance to a mountain cave in one of the steep and vertical faces at the foot of the Tirumala hills which are part of Seshachalam Hills, where the waters of the mountain stream fall directly into Temple Pushkarini known as "Kapila Theertham". A huge stone statue of a seated bull "Nandhi", Lord's Shiva's steed, greets devotees and passersby at the entrance to the temple.
