    Description

    Rudraprayag is situated amidst the beautiful natural surrounding. It is often described as "Abode of Gods" due to the surrounding Himalayas, glaciers, lakes, water streams gushing from sacred rivers, pleasant weather and rich variety of flora and fauna.

     

    Rudraprayag is one of the Panch Prayag (five confluences) of Alaknanda River, the point of confluence of Alaknanda and Mandakini rivers.  The meeting of these two rivers is witnessed like two sisters embracing each other which attracts lot of tourists. 

     

    Rudraprayag is named after Lord Shiva (also known as Rudranath). The famous Rudranath Temple is situated at the confluence of Alaknanda and Mandakini rivers. It is believed that Narad muni was blessed by Lord Shiva (who had appeared in Rudra avatar) at this place.

     

    Rudraprayag is a key stopover on the 'Char Dham' route while visiting Badrinath and Kedarnath.

    Rudranath Temple

    Rudranath Temple / Lord Shiva temple is situated at the confluence of Alaknanda and Mandakini rivers. According to mythology Narada Muni worshipped god Shiva here to learn music from him. The god then appread to him in Rudra avatar. It is also believed that it was here that the Pandavas (from Mahabharata) came to seek forgiveness from Lord Shiva for their sins.

            Hariyali Devi is a Siddh Peeth Temple at 38 km from Rudraprayag (22 kms off Karnaprayag road). Maa Hariyali Devi Temple, surrounded by Himalayan peaks and thick green forests is perched at an elevated height of approximately 1,400 m. The temple houses a idol of Maa Hariyali Devi who is also worshipped as Bala Devi and Vaishno Devi. The idol in this temple sits on the back of a lion dressed in yellow and regally beaded with ornaments.

Tunganath is one of the ‘Panch Kedars’ or the five places where Lord Shiva’s body parts were found. It is believed that Tunganath is situated at the place where his hands were found. Inside the temple, you can see the statue of Adi Guru Shankaracharya. From here you can also enjoy the majestic views of Kedarnath peaks, Gangotri and Yamunotri.                               Deoria Tal

                              Deoria Tal is a lake with crystal clear waters, at an altitude of over 2000 metres above the sea level. It is also known as the Devariya or Deoriya. It is about 3 kilometres uphill from the villages of Mastura and Sari. Jeeps are available for a fantastic tour from Ukhimath to the Sari village via the village of Mastura. The surrounding sceneries of lush greenery and the backdrop of the snow covered mountain peaks looks divine from here. There are options for boating, trekking and overnight camping. The temples of Tungnath and Chandrasila, both dedicated to the worship of Lord Shiva are visited together with the deoria Taal.
