    Description

    Pattadakal is a UNESCO inscribed World Heritage site featuring 7th and 8th-century Hindu (Shaivism) and Jain temples.
    It is located on the left bank of the Malaprabha River in Bagalkot district of Karnataka state. 
    The city was earlier called Pattada Kisuvolal, which translates to ‘City of Crown Rubies’.


    Pattadakallu is famous for well carved historic temples by Chalukya dynasty. 

    It is a popular tourist spot in north Karnataka, and forms a favorite historical circuit (Hampi - Badami - Aihole - Pattadakal) with its neighbouring cities.

    Virupaksha Temple is the prime attraction of Pattadakal. It is the largest temple in Pattadakal and was previously known as Lokesvara Temple.
