    Negombo is a characteristic fishing town north of Colombo.

    Negombo is also facing a lagoon and there is a 100 kilometer canal running through the city. This canal is used today for tourism and offers an unparalleled view of the city and inland country from a unique perspective.

    Negombo is a popular stopby location when entering Kandy from Colombo. It is at a distance of 38 kms from Colombo, and 102 kms from Kandy.
    The place also witness lot of tourists as the Bandaranaike International airport is just 8 kms away from Negombo.

                    Munneswaram Temple / Sri Munneswaram Devasthanam

                    Munneswaram temple is situated in Munneswaram village, the center of the spiritual and religious life of the people dwelling in a medieval administrative division called Munneswaram Pattuva (“Munneswaram division”). Munneswaram temple is an important regional Hindu temple complex in Sri Lanka. Munishwaram means the first temple for Shiva (Munnu + Easwaran). It is believed that when Lord Rama left for Ayodhya after his victorious battle against King Ravana; when he came to this place he felt bramhaasthi dosham was following him as he had killed King Ravana who was a Brahmin. So Lord Rama had stopped at this place and asked Lord Shiva for a remedy. It is then, Lord Shiva advised him to install four lingams and pray to get rid of the dosham. Since then many devotees visit this sacred temple to blessings from Lord Shiva.
