    Mawlynnong is declared the cleanest village in Asia. This small village in the East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya, is surrounded by natural beauty.


    Mawlynnong is at a distance of 80 kms from Shillong, and is famous for its beatiful waterfalls and Living Root Bridges. It is popularly known as “God’s own garden”.
    This clean village is not that far from the India-Bangladesh border.

    Living Root Bridge of Riwai village

    Living Root Bridge are the wonders of nature. The bridge famous for its exclusivity of being formed naturally and not by the humans. It is the hanging roots of the rubber trees which assemble together to make it a perfectly functioning bridge. There are two key locations to see the bridges, one is Mawlynnong and the other, Nongriat. Both of which are reached from Shillong. There are even living root step ladders. It takes decades to build a bridge but once complete, they just get stronger over time. The Riwai village is at a distance of 8 kms from Mawlynnong. The Living Root Bridge here is a sight that is must to see. One has to walk 300 meters in the forest buffer area to reach this living root bridge. You will have to pay a nominal entrance fees to the villagers to see the living root bridge.

              Mawlynnong is 90 KMs southwards of Shillong.
              From Shillong the road goes southwards till it bifurcates, one going towards Cherrapunji and other towards Dawki-Tamabil, the Bangladesh border crossing point. You have to take the Dawki road, to reach Mawlynnong.
