Kaziranga National Park is spread over 430 sq. kms and is home to various wild animals. It is at a distance of 215 kms from Guwahati and is situated on the banks of Brahmaputra River.
The main attraction of the park are one horned rhinoceros. As it is home to two-thirds of the world's one horned rhinoceros population. This national park has been declared as a World Heritage Site.
You can opt for elephant safaris, jeeps or SUV safaris to explore this park.
• The park remains closed for visitors from mid-April to mid-October due to monsoon rains. It is only open between November and April.
• Take binoculars and warm clothing along.
• Hiking is prohibited in the park to avoid potential human-animal conflicts. However, observation towers are situated at few places for tourists to enjoy the beauty of the park.
• You can take the one-hour elephant-back safaris to watch rhinos at close distance. As the team of elephants surround the rhinos closely without frightening and chasing them off.

It is recommended to visit the Western and the Central Ranges both by Elephant and Jeep
Eastern Range is a must for bird lovers and can get rare sighting of Royal Bengal Tigers. Eastern Range can be visited only by jeep.
All the plain lands are infested by tall elephant grass, so it is more convenient to watch wildlife from elephant back.
A Elephant ride is the best way to come close to animals and the rides last about an hour.
There are two batches (05:15-06:15 Hrs & 06:15-07:15 Hrs) for the elephant ride. It is advisable to take the trip in the later slot during the months of winter as fog and late sunrise does not allow one to see anything during the first slot.

Central Range: Rs. 2550 for 6 person from Kohora (Mihimukh)
Western Range: Rs. 2750 for 6 person from Kohora (Bagori)
Eastern Range : Rs. 2550 for 6 person from Bokakhat (Agaratoli)
Kalapahar Range: Rs. 3550 for 6 person from Kohora
Jeep Safari Timings:
The safari is conducted by the forest department in two different shifts.
Morning Jeep Safari timing is 07:00 AM to 09:30 AM.
Afternoon Jeep safari timing is 01:30 PM to 03:30 PM.
Each jeep safari trip is of about 1½ hours to 2 hours, subject to local range conditions and weather.
Kohora is nearly the central part of the park; and it is recommended to stay at Kohora or Bogorijuri or Bokakhat.
Climate is typically tropical. Varies from very hot and humid in summer (April to June) and cold nights and warm days in winter (from November to January).
Kaziranga gets flooded by the water of Brahmaputra almost every year, during monsoon.
The rainy season prevails from June to August. During rain, Kaziranga becomes inaccessible.
Best time to visit Kaziranga National Park is in February, March.

Nearest airport is in Jorhat town 96 km in east and Guwahati airport 225 Km away in west from Kaziranga.
Guwahati is the nearest major railway station (225 kms).
However, Furkating station is just 80 km away from Kaziranga and has well connected by trains from Guwahati.
Kaziranga can be reached from neighboring towns like Guwahati (217 KM), Jorhat (96 KM), Nawgaon, Dibrugarh, Tezpur (75 KM) or Tinsukia by bus.
If travelling on Guwahati-Jorhat route, then get down at Kohora, which is nearly the central part of the park on Guwahati-Jorhat route.
If visiting Kaziranga from Arunachal Pradesh, then reach Tezpur to catch a bus towards Kaziranga.
