    Dehradun is a beautiful hill station in the foothills of the Shivalik ranges. 

    This scenic hill station has a spiritual side to it with a number of temples as well as an exciting and adventurous hue with paragliding, skiing, river rafting and angling. Dehradun is also a famous picnic spot with gardens, parks and widespread landscapes. There are various museums of unique nature at this place.
    Dehradun also has unique natural formations like Guchu Pani and Sahastradhara.

    Robber's Cave / Guchu Pani

    Robber's Cave is popularly called Guchhipani or Guchu Pani. It is a 600 meters long river cave, located 7 kms from city center. The cave is divided into two main parts with its highest fall being 10 meters long. Robber’s cave is famous for a strange natural occurrence; a stream of water suddenly appears and then disappears underground, only to appear again a few yards away. It is surrounded by majestic hills and offers a glorious trek up the mountains. The place was believed to be used by the robbers to hide during the British Raj hence owing to its name. It is currently one of the popular tourist attractions in Dehradun.

      Sahastradhara

      The name Sahastradhara literally means ‘The Thousand Fold Spring’. It comprised of waterfalls, caves and steppe farming lands and provides a unique experience. The name is due to the water that drips from the limestone stalactites in the caves and its waterfalls. Flanked by the Baldi River and caves on each side, Sahastradhara is renowned for its natural beauty and is a popular picnic spot. It also attracts tourists because of the therapeutic values in its Sulphur filled water. This place can be visited any time during the year; but the place dramatically turns up during the monsoon season with water comes gushing off the cliff. There is option to use ropeway cable car ride to get a better view of the place. Sahastradhara is located at a distance of 12 kms from city centre.

        Forest Research Institute (FRI)

        Forest Research Institute (FRI) is India’s leading and one of its kind institutes in the field of forest research. Established in 1906, this architectural marvel has vast collection of forestry related items of display in its museums. Located on a lush green campus spread over 450 hectares, the FRI was constructed by the British and till date remains one of the grandest buildings built during colonial rule. The FRI is home to museums such as the Pathology Museum, Social Forestry Museum, Silviculture Museum, Timbra Museum, Non-Wood Forest Products Museum and the Entomology Museum. Visitors can also take advantage of guided tours on the campus of the FRI which take place daily. Guided tours operate from 9 am to 1 pm and then from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm. FRI is located at a distance of 5 kms from city centre.

          Kalinga war memorial

          Kalinga War Memorial was erected by the British to honour the Gurkhas. The monument depicts courage and brave story of Gurkhas, who fought the battle of Nalapani in 1814.             Tapkeshwar Temple

            Tapkeshwar is a temple inside a damp cave and is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple is located at the edge of the Tons Nadi River. The water from the river, eventually drips off on the Shiv Ling. The name of the temple is derived as 'Tapkeshwar'; because of these water droplets dripping on the Shiv Ling from the roof of the cave. This water eventually disappears underground, only to reappear as a stream a few yards away from the temple. The Tapkeshwar Temple also has cool sulphur springs around its complex where pilgrims come to bathe. The temple is located at a distance of 5.5 kms from the city centre.

                Spread over a massive 820 sq kms of land, the picturesque landscape of the Rajaji National Park of Dehradun is rich in biodiversity. The park houses wide range of wildlife, birds and fish species. It is also a major habitat of the Asian elephant and the Bengal Tiger in India.                     Mindrolling Monastery / Tibetan Buddhist Temple

                    The Tibetan Buddhist temple is one of Dehradun’s famous landmarks and is known for its beautiful architecture, impressive interiors and peaceful surroundings. The temple was constructed in 1965 and is spread over five floors. The Tibetan Buddhist Temple contains statues of Buddha and ethereal wall paintings. Mindrolling Monastery is one of the six major monasteries of the Nyingma school of Buddhism. The monastery has 35 meters high statue of Lord Buddha in Gold.
