    Description

    The ancient city, Ayodhya, is believed to be the birthplace of Rama. It is regarded as one of the seven most important pilgrimage sites (Saptapuri) for Hindus.

    Ayodhya is on the bank of the river Sarayu and was also known as Saket in ancient times. 
    This city was known to be founded by the Hindu deity Manu and is believed to be 9000 years old. 

    There are many temples and mosques built side by side in this spiritual city. 
    Interestingly the city is regarded as an important centre for Jains also, as five of the Thirthankaras were born in this holy city.

    Ram Navami is celebrated in great grandeur in this city

     

    Faizabad is called as the twin city to Ayodhya. It is located at a distance of 7 kms.

    Ram Janmabhoomi / Babri Masjid

    The area although has been a centre of dispute since the destruction of the Babari Masjid, the Ram Janmabhoomi is one of the major attractions in Ayodhya. The place is considered to be the birthplace of Lord Ram. The original temple was said to have been demolished by the Mughal emperor Babur in 1528 AD and built a mosque at the site. The mosque however was demolished in 1992 and the area has since been a ground of dispute.

      Ramkot

        Hanuman Garhi is a temple dedicated to Lord Hanuman. The temple is built in the shape of a fort and one needs to climb 76 steps to reach the temple. This temple is visited by many devotees; as it is beleived that everyones wishes are granted at this holy shrine.
