      Elephanta Caves

      Elephanta Caves are a network of sculpted caves located on Elephanta island, or Gharapuri. This island on Arabian Sea, consists of two groups of caves—the first is a large group of five Hindu caves, the second, a smaller group of two Buddhist caves. The rock cut architecture of the caves has been dated to between the 5th and 8th centuries. To get to the Elephanta Caves, you will need to go to the Gateway of India. From Gateway of India, you need to take 60 minute ferry ride to reach these beutiful caves. Note: Elephanta Caves are closed on Monday First Gateway of India the first boat departs at 9:00 am and there are boats every 30 minutes. The last boat leaves Gateway of India at 2:30 pm. From Elephanta Caves the first return boat starts at 12:00 noon and the last boat departs at 5:30 pm
